Spontaneous Sentience is the phenomenon of sudden, ephemeral sentience being generated absent from a brain whether biological, artificial, or otherwise.

The underlying idea behind Spontaneous Sentience is that sentient experience is ultimately an emergent phenomenon generated by the complex interactions of neuronal activity and electrical signals in the brain.

In theory, it may be possible to generate a spontaneous and isolated sentient experience if the complex pattern of activity necessary can occur independent of a brain.

If Spontaneous Sentience is possible, it is expected to be decay extremely quickly as without the mechanics of a brain to continue generating this sentience, the pattern is unlikely to last long in the manner necessary for the sentience to exist.

Quantum Fields

Spontaneous Sentience is expected if sentience ultimately stems from a quasiparticle field which we termed the Experion field. As with other quantum quasiparticles, the necessary complex interactions of other fields result in the emergent quasiparticle and it associated emergent phenomenon (in this case, sentience).

This topic is also discussed in greater detail in Eternitas Ex Campis where quantum fields are identified as a possible Method of Eternity.

Boltzmann Brain

While this concept may sound similar to a Boltzmann Brain, the phenomenon of Spontaneous Sentience would occur independent of a brain. They are however similar in that the concept arises from the expectation that the unimaginable variety and complexity in how particles and energy interact in the universe should result in the same brain activity necessary for sentience without a brain.
